With First Cut well on its way, we decided we better get a jump on our next installment.

Actually, we’ve been working on two submission opportunities; however, we are still fine tuning the second.

The new submission details and guidelines can be found under the “Submissions” tab at the top of this page.

It’s All Write~fiction writers written by fiction writers is a little something for the artist in all of us. Why not hop on over to the submission page, check out the requirements, and send us a little something to salivate over.

In honor of our preordering opportunity for the First Cut anthology, we’ve posted a mini excerpt from each of the eight stories in the book over at our Facebook page.

Preordering your copy costs only $10 US (shipping included), which saves you over $1.50 on the cost to order the book once it becomes available to the public.

Preordering is easy. Simply use the e-mail address associated with your PayPal account to send a message including your name, shipping address, and desired number of copies to info(at)PaperCutPublishing(dot)com and we’ll invoice you the total cost. No orders will be accepted after Saturday, June 25; and those that aren’t paid will be canceled.

Now that you have the preorder details, I give you, without further ado, the mini excerpts!

Mini excerpt from “Undercover Alien” by Gerald Costlow:

~I came over and took a piece of pizza out of her mouth long enough to kiss her lips. “Gotta go, Doll. You‟ve been a big help. You get tired of playing with the cold stiffs some night, give me a call.”~

Mini excerpt from “Unknown Number” by Mark Allan Gunnells:

~“I get it,” Ethan said aloud, causing some of the other patrons to glance his way. “You can see me. Well, can you see this?” Ethan stuck up the middle finger of his right hand and waved it around in the direction of the street. A table of elderly women gave him dirty looks then turned back to their salads.~

Mini excerpt from “Virgin Blood” by K. Bruce Justice:

~“Hello Ian,” Sergeant Anderson said… “I called the coroner. What a God-awful mess.”

The girl was pretty. Her eyes were slightly closed, as if asleep rather than dead, and her lips were shut in a smile. Her striped blouse had been unbuttoned. Her skirt had been hiked up to her waist, and red panties dangled at the ankle of one outstretched leg.~

Mini excerpt from “The Vampyre‟s Crusade” by Douglas E. Wright:

~Dugan stood on his knees, scraping a wad of gum from under the customers’ side of the bar. His eyes rose and fell from the small LCD television hanging off the ceiling. “Suppose I could lock up for a couple nights. Sure as hell wouldn’t mind getting laid either. Even if it kills me.”

She eyed him up and down. “It just might.”~

Mini excerpt from “Station Six” by David Martinez:

~He squealed like a pig, scaring the living shit out of everyone at the library around him. Not only had he learned a new sound, he was super happy. She was interested. His girl was interested! And she wanted to meet. The time on the corner of the screen read 11:17.~

Mini excerpt from “Mary Tucker” by Terry Alexander:

~Ester shook her head. “Nobody ever proved she didn’t take that child, and you know there ain’t been any bears in this country for years.”

“Mary wasn’t even in these parts when the Wilson baby went missing.”

“I ain’t gonna argue about it anymore.” Ester licked her lips. “You know Mary Tucker took that child same as I do…”~

Mini excerpt from “Throwing Darts” by Gary J. Beharry:

~Charlie’s hand was firm against Mr. Denning’s door, yet he had only pushed it a little bit. C’mon, Charlie. At least do this. He squeezed his crotch again and felt the coolness of the gun through his pants. He took a deep breath and—his cellular phone rang.~

And away we go!

on December 18, 2010 in CLOSED | No Comments »

The “First Cut” anthology is now officially CLOSED for submissions.

Though we have a few more stories to read and decide on, we already have a great line-up of authors, and a cover in the works, and then it’s on to fusing all these creative bits into a nice, neat, fast-paced bundle.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I, for one, am excited to see the final product!

Final TOC to follow soon!

If you haven’t already done so, now is the time to get in your submissions for the “First Cut” anthology. December 17th will be the last day to submit stories. After that, any and all unsolicited submissions will go unread.

Fast-paced stories in the 2-4k range are welcome, longer with query, in any genre.

Artists should send sample art, along with working links to their portfolio or other current samples, to the email listed on the submissions page.

Please be sure to include the proper subject line, as any that aren’t labeled correctly may end up in the spam folder.

Alright, creative geniuses, get cracking! Time is running out!

It’s been over a month and a half since we posted our call for submissions, and we are pleased at the response so far. A couple of great stories have found a home, and, as is the case in this business, we’ve been forced to turn some away.

We’d like to take a moment to say welcome aboard to those authors who have been accepted, and wish those whose stories didn’t make the cut much success on finding the right fit for their work.

The “First Cut” anthology is still in need of authors to help us create a heavenly “slice” of Paper Cut pie! All the necessary information can be found on our Submissions page If you can write a story, we want you. If you can’t, we want you, too, as a reader.

Either way, be sure to pass the word along!

Are you a writer? Are you lost in a world of those who have already tread the path to publication? Do you write gripping stories, tales that will keep a reader hanging, begging for more until your very last word?

Then Paper Cut Publishing wants you!

Are you a starving artist looking for a way to promote your art? Can you create a cover that will have readers begging to find out what lies within?

Send a sample and see if we agree!

Born from the desires of two authors with two very different experiences, Paper Cut Publishing is geared toward helping authors of gripping stories make the cut in today’s competitive market, and bring avid readers the thrilling stories they so desire.

Will YOU make the “FIRST CUT” of the Paper Cut Publishing submission call?
